Dr. Hilbrands has a special place in his heart for working with people that may have some additional needs as far as their dental care requires. He grew up helping his Dad working Special Olympic track events and continued that experience working at Advance in Brookings throughout college at SDSU and then Achieve in Sioux Falls before starting dental school. Dr. Hilbrands currently enjoys coaching Special Olympic's softball and basketball in Brookings. He understands the additional challenges involved with dental care and the direct correlation it has to the overall health in this population and wants the best possible care for each patient.

As we age, different goals and needs arise as far as dental treatment goes. Health factors including medications that cause dry mouth and loss of dexterity increasing the difficulty holding a toothbrush can cause an increase in cavities. Quality and longevity of life is related to the number of natural teeth a patient maintains. We would be happy to discuss options to help with these difficulties to improve your homecare and the life of your teeth!
